Two men accused of murdering an Ingleby Barwick grandad have appeared in court. Martin Breeze, 56, and Shaun Breeze, 29, have pleaded not guilty to the murder of 60-year-old Brian Darby on February 9. The pair also face charges of attempted murder, grievous bodily harm and perverting the course of justice.
On Monday, Shaun Breeze, of Owls Grove in Ingleby Barwick , and Martin Breeze, of Irthing Close in Ingleby Barwick, appeared at Teesside Crown Court via video links from separate rooms in Durham prison. They both entered not guilty pleas to 11 charges. Mr Darby died following a suspected "hit and run" incident in the Myton Way area of Ingleby Barwick.
His family, who are also from Ingleby Barwick , released a statement after his death. They said: "We are completely heartbroken at the sudden loss of our beautiful Brian. Nobody could ever understand just how much he meant to us all.
He was special in so many ways. He was an absolute gentleman, who cared so much about people. He always made time for us, nothing was ever too much trouble for him.
" Martin Breeze and Shaun Breeze are charged with: Murder Manslaughter Attempted murder and grievous bodily harm of a woman Attempted murder and grievous bodily harm of a man Attempted murder and grievous bodily harm of a man Attempted murder and attempted grievous bodily harm of a man Perverting the course of justice by allegedly 'making a false report that Martin Breezes’ van had been stolen’. A three week trial has been scheduled.
