Nearly a decade on, a new Stan Originals documentary Renee Gracie: Fireproof has dived deep into the 'Pussy Wagon' controversy that rocked the Bathurst 1000 and cost one driver $25,000. Supercars driver turned porn star Renee Gracie was the poster girl for the V8 series at the 2015 Bathurst 1000 alongside the 'Swiss Miss' Simona De Silvestro, IndyCar's biggest female star since Danica Patrick. Gracie and De Silvestro formed the Harvey Norman-backed Super Girls entry, which marked the first all-female driver line-up to contest the Bathurst 1000 since the Castrol Cougars in 1997 with Melinda Price and Kerryn Brewer.

However, Gracie's highly-anticipated Supercars debut was overshadowed by an incident after practice when then-teammate David Reynolds referred to the Super Girls entry as the "Pussy Wagon" in a press conference. Supercars took a dim view of the remark and sanctioned Reynolds who copped a $25,000 fine, the biggest for a driver in the sport's history.



Gracie surmised from Supercars paddock sources that the championship organisers were keen to be proactive in distancing themselves from the sexist language. She said the incident came at a time when football codes were battling sexual assault allegations and Supercars did not want to be dragged into that media discourse.
