Article content Professionals giving facial treatments, massages or makeup application to vulnerable people is the goal of a “truck that does good” launched this week by the Vide ta sacoche organization. Vide ta sacoche, which provides hygiene products and cosmetics to those in need, is broadening its mission. The organization hopes to be able to offer estheticians’ services free of charge to about 100 people this year.
Before the truck took to the road on June 4, a pilot project helped about a dozen women. “Everyone was saying: ‘I would have loved to stay in the truck for longer; it just felt so good. I feel I look beautiful; l feel good,'” said Vide ta sacoche executive director Marie-Anik Shoiry.
Vide ta sacoche has a varied clientèle, from people who are unhoused to young people living in precarious situations. “It’s really about self-esteem, about well-being. It’s about being able to take a little break, to realize, even if you are going through tough times, you have the right to take some time to look after yourself and make yourself feel better: You are valuable,” Shoiry said.
“Everything is about well-being, self-esteem and dignity — and about about feeling like everyone else. It’s about more than merely providing services and giving away products: It goes way beyond that.” The organization already has a truck intended to help with the transportation and delivery of donations and the idea for the project came to Shoiry as “a flash,” s.
