Have you ever noticed how your socks go from dazzling white to dull and mucky after a few uses? The good news is that restoring their former glory is a piece of cake, according to a TV clean queen. While it is tempting to grab bleach for its whitening properties it can weaken the fibre strength of socks, making them prone to holes and thinning over time. However, there's a natural alternative endorsed by Queen of Clean, Lynsey Crombie.

She took to Instagram sharing her brilliantly easy technique to wash socks using bicarbonate of soda. In her video demonstration, she cleans her son's "filthiest white socks" by dunking them in a tub filled with warm water, and laundry detergent, followed by "a scoop" of baking soda. One of the beauties of baking soda is its mild abrasive qualities which aid in dislodging embedded dirt and grime in fabrics, allowing stains to be easily removed.

Additionally, baking sodas alkaline nature boosts the efficiency of detergents, enhancing their capability of brightening and cleaning socks. After letting a concoction of warm water, laundry soap and baking powder soak for a bit, she used a mini washboard to scrub the socks becoming pristine white once more, reports the Express . As she demonstrates her method, she says: "Love my washboard, perfect when hand washing, old school cleaning at its best.

However, you can also get the same outcome by soaking socks in the baking soda mixture for around 30 minutes before tossing them into a standard washing mac.
