A British town has been named one of the worst places to visit according to tourists - despite its picturesque walking and hiking trails. Fort William in the Scottish Highlands received the title of 'worst spot' for a mini-break in Scotland and across the UK, according to new research. Scotland is known for making its way to the top of international rankings as one of the most beautiful destinations in the world.
But Fort William, in the West Highlands, hasn't been so lucky with its recent reputation. The town has come up in the bottom ranks as being one of the poorest destinations for a holiday across the entire UK, according to Which?, which surveyed 3,967 people rating towns and cities around the UK they had stayed in for leisure. Fort William came last, tying with Torquay in England on the list of low-ranking 'small UK cities', scoring a mere 58%.
Which? found there were several shortcomings in the town that may have contributed to its poor ranking. The judgement was rather harsh, with Fort William scoring just two stars out of five across four categories: food and drink, accommodation, shopping, and 'ease of getting around'.
