FARGO — Fans of the Fargo-based brewery Drekker love their beer. Some love Drekker so much that they have the logo permanently tattooed on their body. It’s not your ordinary logo, but a fetching Viking with a massive beard and horned hat to match, in a stark black-and-white design.

This is how a tattoo festival was born. If you're considering where to put that next tattoo (Viking or not), the Hels Füry Tattoo Fest might give you some ideas. The festival began on Friday, May 31, and will continue through Sunday, June 2 at Brewhalla, 1666 1st Ave.

The inaugural festival is the brainchild of folks from Drekker Brewing Company, Brewhalla and Amarok Tattoo Studio and brings together more than 80 tattoo artists from around the country to offer ink on the spot. Athena Funk, owner of Amarok Tattoo Studio , first started tattooing at Drekker events in 2018.

Her business, which opened in 2016 in downtown Fargo, was kiddy-corner to the brewery's first location on First Avenue. During Drekker Fest, an annual event celebrating the anniversary of the business, Amarok's tattoo artists were invited to offer flash art tattoos. “They pay us to tattoo the Drekker logo for free on people who want it.
