BRAINERD — The CLC Performing Arts Center announced its upcoming production of the musical “The Prom” performing from July 23 to Aug. 1 at the Chalberg Theatre, Central Lakes College. “The Prom” debuted in 2016 and was nominated for seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score.
The story follows four eccentric Broadway stars in desperate need of a new stage. When they learn that a small-town prom is facing controversy, they see an opportunity to put themselves back in the spotlight. The town’s parents want to keep the high school dance traditional, but one brave student just wants to bring her girlfriend to prom.
As Broadway’s brassiest stars join forces with the courageous girl and the town’s citizens, the result is a celebration of love and acceptance. The production is directed and choreographed by Amy Borash with vocal direction by Koreann Martin, who have both previously worked together on several shows including past CLC productions “Kinky Boots” and “Something Rotten!” The team also includes Arsen Engels as stage manager, Tim Leagjeld as set designer, and Heidi Eckwall as lighting designer.
