The tenants of an historic pub are calling it a day, saying they'd given it their all but it still wasn't enough. When The Nevile Arms closes next month it will leave the Nottinghamshire village of Kinoulton without a pub. The pub, which dates back to 1835, was taken over by Darren Guildford and his wife Michelle, and lifelong friend Justyn Durham and his partner Steph Salt in July 2022.

Back in February Mr Guildford appealed to residents on Facebook to make the place more buzzing, vibrant and busier, warning if trade didn't pick up the pub would close at the end of July. He said: "It would break my heart to leave here, I love it, but when you can’t swim anymore, you end up drowning, so we can only do what we can do. But we don’t want to lose it and for it to be a failure.

Announcing the decision on Facebook, the couple said: "We have given our all to the Nev for the last two years but unfortunately it’s still not enough to get the establishment thriving how it needs to be, to be successful. Firstly we’d like to thank the small amount of residents from Kinoulton and the surrounding villages for the support, You are all amazing and hopefully you’ll support us until the very end.

"Secondly thank you to our amazing staff without you we’d have been nothing, each one of you have played a tremendous pa.
