They’ve plenty of experience designing beautiful hospitality spaces like Vancouver’s Kissa Tanto, La Tana and Savio Volpe., along with hotel design for the likes of Hotel Zed in Tofino on Vancouver Island.

Postmedia sat down with Ste Marie founder Craig Helping to renovate the Rosewood Hotel Georgia has been such an honour,” says Stanghetta, “because you don’t often get to work on buildings with this high level of heritage refurbishment. There’s a lot of beautiful contemporary architecture happening these days in Vancouver, but not a lot of good heritage stuff.” Some years ago, Ste Marie was approached to redesign the Rosewood Hotel Georgia’s rooftop terrace bar – Reflections – but then COVID emerged and everything just slowed down, says Stanghetta.

This project is underway again, and requires some fairly major engineering, so in conjunction with that work Stanghetta and his team undertook the renovation of the hotel’s lobby and cocktail lounge. The team at the Rosewood, and the hotel owner, felt they weren’t getting as much use as possible out of the lobby, as it was, says Stanghetta. “It’s an expansive and gorgeous space and it’s very unique in Vancouver,” he says.

What Ste Marie sought to achieve with their design was to give a nod to the roaring Thirties and the hotel’s art deco history, but not in a way that competed with the building’s deco d.
