My Wednesday started like a Monday last week. The night before, I didn't get to sleep until 2 a.m.
because my flight home from an East Coast vacation was delayed by three hours. My body ached from sunburns. And I got to start Wednesday with a dentist appointment.
I cannot overstate how much I fear going to the dentist — I had a particularly traumatic root canal experience when I was a teen that I have never bounced back from. But half-awake, half-exhausted, red from head to toe, I begrudgingly showed up, because apparently you're supposed to take care of your teeth, or whatever. Expecting to leave with my face numb and my spirit broken, I was pleasantly surprised when the appointment was pretty simple and non-invasive.
In fact, I was eager enough to treat myself to a nice lunch afterward. Sure enough, just around the corner from my dentist's office, I saw Olympic Gyros. It'd been a long time since I had some good Greek cuisine, so I thought I'd give it a try.
Here's what I learned: there is no better way to turn around a nightmarish morning than dining at Olympic Gyros. The gyro combo at Olympic Gyros comes with french fries and a pita stuffed with lamb, onions, tomatoes and tzatziki sauce. Forgive me for taking a bite before taking a picture.
I kept it simple with my order, opting for the Gyro Combo, a flagship dish that comes with a drink and a side of fries. In terms of French fries I've had in the Quad-Cities, I'm willing to give Olympic Gyros the gold medal. Seriously,.
