THERE is a beautiful little Irish island of the west coast that's perfect for outdoor lovers who enjoy diving, hiking, and horse riding. Inishbofin Island is located off the coast of Connemara, Co Galway , and it’s perfect for a relaxing escape. And it’s also known as 'The Enchanted Island'.

Inishbofin Island is approximately 8km off the coast of Connemara and can be reached by ferry from a pier in Cleggan. It has one of the finest deep Hhrbours on the west coast . The little Island is home to “Dun Grainne”, which is an old Irish fort used by famous pirate Grace O’Malley and dates back over 10,000 years.



A trip to this magical island is an adventure back to the 17th century. With safe, sandy beaches, the island is an ideal spot for swimming . And it is a perfect spot for anyone interested in getting off the grid and experiencing a quieter side of the Emerald Isle.

You’ll need to take the daily ferry that only takes passengers to reach this fantastic spot. It’s not possible to drive onto the island, but plenty of parking areas are within walking distance from the pier on the mainland. The ferry ride takes approximately 40 minutes and leaves Cleggan pier three times a day during the summer peak season.

Make sure to check the timetable online to avoid any disappointment on the day. Once you reach the island you will find clear water that is ideal for swimming, snorkelling and diving. It is also a favourite spot for hill walking, rock climbing and angling.
