TAKE a look at the beautiful Irish beach that was once voted the second best in the WORLD - with golden sand, crystal clear water and dolphins. Ballymastocker Bay is located on the Fanad Peninsula in northern Donegal . The beach has won the Blue Flag award and was once voted the second most beautiful beach in the world by Observer Magazine.
It is also known as Portsalon beach and boasts over a mile of perfect golden sand. And the truly spectacular Blue Flag beach has even attracted Taylor Swift who paid a visit to Ballymastocker in the summer of 2021. It is situated in a Natural Habitat Area , and the beach slopes gently towards the Atlantic Ocean.
There is also a fabulous view over the Inishowen Peninsula. The Blue Flag beach has clear water for swimming, plenty of waves for surfers, and sheltered coves for escaping the wind. It is a 20-minute spin from both Ramelton and Rathmullan, a 25-minute drive from Downings and a 30-minute drive from Letterkenny.
There are also toilets on-site and a parking area near the beach's southern end. Rugged cliffs protect Ballymastocker Bay, and lifeguards are on duty between 12pm and 6.30pm between June and September.
Visitors are advised to take care as the Atlantic can be wild even in summer . It is highly recommended to swim between the flags as it indicates that lifeguards are on duty. Yellow flags indicate that it is safe to swim, while red flags indicate that the conditions are hazardous and that it is dangerous to enter the water.
Bal.
