The School Parliament took on a project to create planters for Pam's Place, a charitable community hub in the town, CraftAbility, which supports people with physical disabilities in Uttlesford, and the Baptist Church. The initiative began with Year 6 pupils writing letters to the Thaxted-based charity Yardley's, seeking support for their cause. Impressed by the children's passion for the project, Yardley's stepped in to offer their support - helping the school secure funding and a donation of planters from Planteria in Henham.
The children were able to purchase all the necessary supplies with guidance from gardening and household shop H. Lowe & Co in Town Street. Cassy Burns, manager of Pam's Place, thanked the children, saying: "The planters are beautiful and have made our visitors smile.
" Thaxted Primary School deputy head Mrs Dymond said: "I am very proud of the children wanting to contribute to their community, and the planters look amazing." Describing the experience as "enriching", she added: "It has been a great learning journey for the children, being fully engaged in every aspect of the project, from planning to potting up the plants.".
