Target has launched a price war with Walmart by slashing its prices of at least 5,000 popular items ahead of Memorial Day Weekend. Products ranging from milk to diapers will have lower prices as Target looks to win over customers from its competitor. As a result of high food prices, customers have become more conscious of their spending and instead look for cheaper products in stores and online.

Walmart has already started offering products at lower prices, putting pressure on Target to follow suit. Rick Gomez, Target’s chief food, essentials, and beauty officer, said: “We know consumers are feeling pressured to make the most of their budget.



” Ahead of a busy Memorial Day Weekend, Target is discounting key food items including meat, bread, fresh fruit, and vegetables, as well as soda, various snacks, and yogurts. Target is also reporting its quarterly results on Wednesday and appears to be betting on price cuts to contribute to a positive result. The retailer said it has already made 1,500 items cheaper - including frozen chicken breast and shredded cheese - with more price cuts on the way this summer.
