The Highlands Highway is more than 600 km long and it travels through the entire Highlands region as well as Morobe. If you really want to see the country, a trip on this highway is a must as photographer Christopher Kageni found out. Christopher, an entrepreneur photographer had some amazing adventures in PNG and he has been to the Highlands before but he has only gone up to Hagen.
Travelling up the Highlands Highway recently for him was the experience of a life time. The highlight of it all was being able to visit six different provinces in two days and for Christopher, that is the highest number of provinces he has been to within two days. Most people would only be able to visit two provinces in one or two days.
“It gives you a different perspective, starting down at the coastline, going through the plains and slowly climbing up the mountains through the different climate, environment and regions and at the same time, through different cultures and groups of people that come from different areas of the Highlands region,” said Christopher. This trip also gave him an opportunity to see the Highlands in a different light. As a person from the coast, his idea of the Highlands was shaped by the media portrayal of a place full of tribals fights and terror but seeing the place for himself really changed his point of view.
Going up there and meeting the people made him see that there are peaceful people in the Highlands. For him, it was the beauty of seeing the highlands by tr.
