Two months ago to the day, I retired from my job at Brittany Pointe. It is interesting to note that the reality of retirement is far different than the dream. To be clear, I am absolutely loving retirement, but.
.. The dream contained images of me lounging in my backyard under a canopy, light breeze to keep me cool, frozen beverage in my hand, leisurely reading one of the many books that I never had time to read while I was still working.
Yes, that is the dream. The dream continued with me sitting on the beach now and again, enjoying ocean breezes and dipping my toes in the waves. I can smell that ocean air! My dream also contained lots and lots of free time, sleeping in on lazy mornings, sipping coffee and moving about at a leisurely pace.
But I should have known that was not going to happen because that is just not my personality! OK, so here is my reality: Every morning a playful and tenacious black lab wakes me up before 6:30. This is not the type of alarm that has a snooze button, so bleary eyed, I make my way downstairs. At that hour, the coffee pot becomes my best friend! So out we go, into the gardens in my backyard.
A normal person could probably just wait for the pup to do her business, but I am not a normal person. Once outside, my gardens beckon. Each morning, I spend time fighting the never-ending but rewarding battle against weeds.
Though I may never come out victorious, it is a satisfying pursuit. Once I have sufficiently gotten my hands dirty and there is dirt .
