Enthusiastic response from female audience in Sonapur area HT Bureau GUWAHATI, May 24: Amidst the increasing popularity of the Assamese feature film ‘Jiya’ for its realistic portrayal of women’s issues and struggles, Star Cement organised a special screening for 130 people at PVR Cinemas. The screening, held on Friday, was particularly significant as 95 percent of the attendees were women and girls from the Sonapur area. This initiative, conducted by the CSR wing of Star Cement, aimed at supporting and inspiring women through impactful storytelling.

The screening of ‘Jiya’ received an enthusiastic response from the audience. The film, directed by Kenny Basumatary and produced by Sarmistha Chakravorty, tells the story of a resilient young woman named Jiya. The audience, comprising many single mothers, found the film deeply relatable and inspiring.



One viewer commented, “Jiya is a life-changing experience. It feels like the story of someone we all know—a neighbour, a friend, maybe even ourselves.” Critics and film lovers have praised ‘Jiya’ for its realistic portrayal of real-life struggles and compelling storytelling.

Film critic Ambar Chatterjee described ‘Jiya’ as “a deeply personal and poignant tale of struggle and triumph, underlined by fantastic performances and able direction.” Popular actress Ila Arun commended the film for its beautiful depiction of the life and struggles of a single mother, urging everyone to support the film by watching it.
