An aspiring 18-year-old West Australian AFL footballer has died in a car crash in Perth. Nick Campo, who was a Colts player for South Fremantle Football Club, was sitting in the rear passenger seat of a vehicle when it crashed and rolled on Farrington Rd in North Lake about 11.40pm on Saturday.
The vehicle then collided into a black Jeep patriot SUV that was travelling in the opposite direction, heading east. Three other passengers in the vehicle alongside Campo were taken to Royal Perth Hospital by St John WA for treatment of various injuries. The 17-year-old male driver of the vehicle was also taken to hospital.
The 26-year-old male driver and 27-year-old female passenger of the Jeep were taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital with minor injuries. On Sunday, Campo’s father, Daniel Campo, said their family has been “ripped apart” since learning of the horror crash. “In the early hours of this morning our beautiful son Nick passed away after he was involved in a tragic car accident, our lives have been ripped apart, 18 years old, a future with so much hope taken away, we are praying others in the car involved will be OK,” Mr Campo wrote on Facebook.
South Fremantle CEO Cameron Britt also extended his sympathies to the Campo family, and said the club was in “deep shock” by the tragedy. “South Fremantle Football Club is deeply saddened by news of a car accident overnight ..
