In keeping with that desire to give back and build-up future filmmakers, Spiller will be in town July 5 to 7 at the for a series of workshops. Spiller is a triple TV threat as he spent many years as a director of photography before adding director and producer to his job title list. “My background on the technical side being a cinematographer has only helped me in both directing and producing,” said Spiller, who won his Emmy for directing the episode Halloween from Modern Family’s second season.



Spiller will be running the two-day In-Production Bootcamp at the VFS, where students are tasked with creating and shooting a scene for TV. “I’m excited by the premise,” said Spiller, adding that he felt it’s going to be a bit like the 48-film festival where a group of filmmakers get together and “conceive, write, produce, direct, edit and complete a short film in that designated time frame.” The hands-on workshop is joined.
