TROY, N.Y. — An artist’s inspiration can come from many places.

Likewise, a customer who is shopping for art will be drawn to pieces that represent what inspires them. If you’re someone who is inspired by the earth, you should meet Patricia Wood. Wood is the owner and proprietress of Earthtacular.

Her company sells handmade jewelry and art, all inspired by planet Earth and incorporating all natural materials. Wood loves the natural world and spends as much time as she can be immersed in the great outdoors. With a house and studio located on a wooded rural street in Troy’s Sycaway neighborhood and the Adirondacks within driving distance, Wood doesn’t have to go far to find sources of inspiration for her artistic works.

Earthtacular was founded in 2021 when Wood decided to pursue her interest in art more seriously as a way to fill her free time during the pandemic. Living in Denver, CO, at the time, she invested in a silversmithing course. Already a naturally talented artist taking inspiration from the earth, Wood was ready to add a new medium to her list of skills.

“I went to school for geology, but always did art on the side,” Wood explained. “I thought that it would be a nice blending of the two.” In 2022, Wood and her husband moved to Troy to be closer to both their families.

“I’m originally from Long Island, and this was the closest we were willing to get to New York City,” Wood said. “My husband’s family is from New Jersey, so Troy is a good in.
