After finally receiving the green light from the Department of Environmental Planning and Protection (DEPP), the developers of Six Senses Grand Bahama’s luxurious multi-million-dollar project, Weller Development Partners said they are anxious to begin construction. Making the announcement last week was Founding Partner and President of Weller Development Marc Weller. “In our commitment to the sustainable development of Grand Bahama, the [Environmental Impact Assessment] EIA process symbolizes our dedication to the long-term well-being of the island and its people,” Weller said.

“As we move forward, we are driven by a shared vision of creating a destination that harmoniously blends luxury, nature, community involvement and responsible development.” He said Weller Development will deliver a world-class resort and residences ultimately providing a boost to the local economy by generating hundreds of jobs for Bahamians. Construction on the resort, located at Discovery Bay on the south entrance to the Lucayan Waterway, is expected to begin within the next few months.

Attorney Thomas Dean of Dupuch & Co believes the project is a great opportunity for the island. “I think that it is something that needs to be done in Grand Bahama. I don’t see anything that adds in a negative aspect to it.

So, I say all systems are go,” Dean said. The Bahamas’ EIA process was established to safeguard the country’s natural surroundings and environment from the impact of development.
