Chandigarh: To encourage voter turnout in Chandigarh, various individuals and organizations, including the Chief Electoral Office of the Union Territory, have launched initiatives to entice citizens to exercise their franchise on June 1, 2024. This year, the election commission aims for a turnout of around 75 per cent and the efforts aim to achieve this goal. Associations of hotels, restaurants, and popular eateries have deicded to offer discounts to voters.
Citizens who vote on June 1, 2024, can avail a minimum of a 10% discount at participating establishments by showing their inked fingers as proof. Notably, five-star hotels like JW Marriott are offering a 20% discount on the total bill until June 2, 2024, in all of its restaurants. In the buffet, there would be a special feast planned.
Further, Hyatt Regency will also be offering a 20% discount on the total bill. "It is our right to vote in a democracy. To raise awareness about this, the Hotel and Restaurant Association, along with the Club and Restaurant Association of Chandigarh, has initiated this campaign.
We are offering a 10-20% discount across various establishments mostly till June 1. This voluntary offer has received a very positive response from many restaurants and chains in our association," said Manmohan Singh Kohli, the chairman of the Hotel and Restaurant Association. The Chandigarh Club is organising election special mini bumper tambola on June 2 in which gift would only be given to those who have voted.
