TWO local hairdressers made the top fifty in their categories at the UK Hair and Beauty Awards last weekend. Vania Johnson, the owner of Halo Hair Studio in the Toll Clock shopping centre, went to the awards in Birmingham with her apprentice Amy Pearson. Johnson was nominated for Best for Blonde and ranked 40th in the UK.
Pearson was up for Apprentice of the Year and came 22nd overall. Shetland News caught up with Johnson after the ceremony. “We didn’t expect to be placed in the top 50 at all and it’s out of thousands of people, so we are pretty proud of ourselves,” she said.
“We just applied online, there were loads of different questions on how you got into the industry, explaining your journey. “Then there was a portfolio part that you sent in photos and videos of your work..
. judges then decided from there.” The awards ceremony was an “exciting” night, with magicians, fire throwers and live music.
“It was an amazing experience,” Johnson said. “We travelled down to Birmingham, the awards were a red carpet event bringing all the different people in the industry together. “We sat with a few other ones at the table that we’ve followed on social media so we’ll keep in touch and hopefully we’ll maybe even go again next year, you never know.
“It was really good to meet other folk that are in the same industry and network with other hairdressers and beauticians.”.
