Interior stylist Caroline Fernandes searched for years to find the perfect holiday home for a seaside escape before finally settling on the beautiful setting of Rosslare Strand in Wexford. “The location was perfect for us, an hour and half drive from Dublin and a beautiful beach right on the doorstep”. Caroline soon got to work transforming the space into a dreamy beach house that is so beautiful you may never want to leave.
What was the holiday home like when you purchased it? The house needed a lot of work and I knew it was going to be a labour of love to create the vision we had for it. We really wanted a property that we could strip right back and put our own stamp on so this was perfect. We wanted a home away from home, a turnkey finish.
The interior was very dark and full of pine. The house was originally built in the 1960’s and held lots of memories for the local community, with this in mind we felt it was important to keep the essence and the footprint intact and opted for a small rear extension keeping within planning guidelines so work could commence relatively quickly. Where did you start when it came to renovating the space? The design process started in the open plan kitchen and living area.
I invested a lot of thought and planning into this area as it sits in the centre of the house so I knew we would spend a lot of time in this space and I had a wish list I wanted to achieve. I wanted a kitchen/living space that was not only aesthetically pleasing but fun.
