The Night Sky This Week: July 8-14, 2024 The week following a new moon is always a great opportunity to get outside looking west after dark. This week, there’s a chance to see a waxing crescent moon pass close to Leo’s chief star Regulus before, later this week, a half-moon occults bright star Spica, blocking it from view as seen from North America. Sky-watchers can also see Jupiter meet Aldebaran—the “eye of the bull” in the constellation Taurus—while New Yorkers can view the third and fourth “Manhattanhenge” moments at sunset on both Friday and Saturday.
