Two of the top javelin prospects in the country have their sights set on Lincoln, Nebraska. The future for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Cornhuskers throwing program, particularly women’s javelin, looks extremely bright as both Dior-Rae Scott and Taysha Stubbs committed to the division one program this week. Scott and Stubbs, both 16, are two of the premier girls javelin throwers in the region and globally as well.
They both won gold medals at the 51st CARIFTA Games in St. George’s, Grenada, this year, but even more substantial, they are both highly ranked in the world. Scott is tied for fourth on World Athletics’ Top Performance List for under-18 girls in the 500-gram javelin event, and Stubbs is sixth in that same division, but in the 600-gram javelin event.
Scott won gold with a new CARIFTA record in the under-17 girls javelin in Grenada, while Stubbs grabbed gold in the under-20 girls division. Not only are they national teammates, representing The Bahamas together, but they are also members of the same clubs – Blue Chip Athletics and Air Assault under the guidance of coaches Corrington Maycock and Laquel Harris. Now, both of them are set to be a part of the incoming class of 2025 for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
“I’m really excited and thank God for making it this far,” said Scott. “My main focus is education and then athletics after that. They (Nebraska) provided me with the comfort that I needed and their throwing program is really good.
I’m really .
