A campaigner made a passionate plea to “save our trees” to Solihull councillors as fears grow they could be felled. Patricia Jones said she was representing residents who are against the felling of 15 protected trees proposed as part of a new planning application. Speaking at the latest full council meeting of Solihull Council she highlighted the application for a single-dwelling bungalow with a driveway to be built on a garage block off Wherretts Well Lane.
The resident of nearby Lugtrout Lane said she was appealing to councillors to turn down the application and uphold the Tree Preservation Order (TPO) on the trees in the small wooded area, originally granted in 2021. “We strongly object to the planning application,” she told councillors. “The 15 trees are protected under the TPO due to the fair to good health.

The trees have already been painted with blue paint to be identified to be pulled down, as we speak.” She said the trees were a “haven” for species including birds, bats and other wildlife and their beauty had been a factor in why people moved to the area.
