This weekend, the sound of Sacred Winds will be heard in Somerset once again. The Sacred Winds Ensemble's Summer Concert will be held this Sunday, June 9 at Grace Baptist Church, located at 340 Oak Leaf Lane, beginning at 6 p.m.
The concert is an annual event, now in its 27th year. The event is free, but those attending should reserve seats in advance at www.sacredwinds.
org . Any remaining tickets will be available at will-call. Sacred Winds is a ministry that partners with Grace Baptist Church in Somerset, where Bersaglia is Pastor of Worship.
The group performed a "Coffee Concert" at the Virginia Theater in February, offering the audience a taste of what they could do — but those who attended will find a very different experience this Sunday. "It's a 65-piece orchestra, so the Coffee Concert was a smaller group, where this concert is the full ensemble," said Bersaglia. The group is playing a variety of music, including a new fanfare setting on the old favorite "Amazing Grace.
" Also being performed is "Lamb of God" by David Gillingham — with a special guest behind the baton. "Richard Miles, who is Director of Bands Emertius at Morehead State University, is coming in to guest conduct," said Bersaglia. Three vocalists from Louisville will assist the ensemble to close out the program, singing a piece called "Total Praise" by Richard Smallwood.
