The Royal NewZealand Ballet (RNZB) will present a spectacular trio ofballets for its 2024 winter season. Solace: Dance to feedyour soul, in association with Ryman Healthcare, will lightup stages in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, TāmakiMakaurau Auckland, and Ōtautahi Christchurch from 1 to 17August, with work by three of the world's most innovativeand celebrated artists, Wayne McGregor (Britain), SarahFoster-Sproull (Aotearoa New Zealand) and Alice Topp(Australia). RNZB Artistic Director Ty King-Wall says,“I’m looking forward with such anticipation to ourSolace season, in which our dancers and audiences alike willexperience the incredible capacity of dance as a languagefor diversity of expression, and the unbelievable physicalcapacity of the human body for movement.

” WayneMcGregor’s Infra, from the Latin word for 'below',delivers an illuminating portrait of city life. Thisabstract ballet delves beneath the surface to present amoving mediation on human interactions. Infrapremiered at the Royal Opera House in London in 2008.



Withan LED screen running the width of the stage revealing amesmerising flow of British artist Julian Opie's walkingfigures, Infra features twelve dancers moving through solos,duets, and ensembles. Accompanying the work is Max Richter'selegiac score, which mixes melancholy string melodies withelectronic sounds. Sarah Foster-Sproull’s To Hold isher fifth original work for the RNZB.

It explores theintricate wonders of the human form: shape shift.
