Photo by Geoff Robins / AFP via Getty Images Article content Maybe it’s odd to talk about winter safety during a nasty heat dome nightmare of a stinky-hot week, but this story is too cool to pass up. City council recently unanimously approved a “living snow fence” pilot project that is so perfect it might as well be a unicorn.
The idea first came to the people of Rural Woodlands because they were upset by the loss of Ottawa trees. As Andrea Sissons and Pam Chiles explained to me, rural Ottawa lost more than 1,200 acres of forests in 2023. Sissons and Chiles had been looking for ways to encourage people to keep forests and hedgerows.
