The RNLI has responded to people's demands after a petition was launched following the disappearance of a 14-year-old boy in the . Daniel Halliday, 14, went missing at beach on Sunday, June 30 after jumping waves on the beach with his brother. Emergency services attended the scene at around 7pm, with a huge response from police, fire and rescue services, the coastguard and the RNLI.

The path to the radar tower was closed off and police officers directed passers-by away from the area as the search continued. On Monday, July 1, the coastguard confirmed the search had been stood down after 15 hours. Following the tragic incident, the people of Crosby and the surrounding area started a petition asking the RNLI to introduce longer hours for lifeguards.



The petition said: "This petition holds a deeply personal significance, and originates from an urgent concern for public safety. Over the course of the past two years, two tragic and preventable losses have occurred on Crosby Beach and in the marina lake. "As members of the Liverpool community, we cannot stand by as more lives are lost.

Despite the known dangers, there are currently no lifeguards on duty at these locations during the most active months of the year, from June through September. "Each year, more people flock to these natural beauties to enjoy the , unaware of the potential risks due to the lack of supervision.
