Musawenkosi Moyo RESIDENTS in Bulawayo’s Nkulumane suburb held a clean-up campaign on Wednesday, tackling dumpsites and promoting a culture of cleanliness in their community. Ward 23 Councillor Ntombizodwa Khumalo, said the clean-up campaign aims to encourage residents to embrace a culture of cleanliness and restore the city’s former glory. “We’re driven by a two-fold mission that is to restore our city’s former elegance and raise awareness about the national clean-up day launched by the President (Mnangagwa).
We also hope to encourage participation from other wards by setting a strong example,” she said. Cllr Khumalo said the clean-up campaign targeted several areas around the community, with residents lending a helping hand. “Alongside residents and Ikhaya Arts, a local music group, we concentrated our efforts on cleaning the area around Bullet Shopping Centre, clearing all nearby dumpsites.
This initiative is about more than just appreciation of beauty, but proper waste disposal is crucial to prevent the spread of diseases like cholera and diarrhea. “We want our community to be a healthy and vibrant place, and this clean-up campaign is a step towards achieving that. It fosters a sense of community pride and encourages social interaction among residents,” she said.
