A bit of luck gave the Reign a 1-1 draw against NJ/NY Gotham FC on Sunday. With 11 games remaining and eight points back from the eighth and final NWSL playoff spot, Seattle’s season technically wasn’t revived at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J.

They’re still looking for a strong pulse. The Reign remain one of two teams that are winless on the road this season. San Diego, which fired coach Casey Stoney last week, is 0-4-4 while the Reign are 0-7-1.

Seattle’s last win was in May against the Wave. “Going down a goal, we know how that feels and we know how to get out of it a little bit more,” Reign defender Shae Holmes said. “This is one of the best showings we’ve had in the past couple of weeks.

So, I’m super proud of the team.” Quinn had a perfect delivery on a free kick from distance in the 98th minute. The ball missed Veronica Latsko by inches, but Gotham defender Nealy Martin headed in the own goal.

The play was slight retribution for a similar goal the Reign conceded in a 1-1 draw against Racing Louisville last week at Lumen Field. The visitors tapped in a score off a deep free kick in the 97th minute. “I just wanted to get it into a good space kind of at the back post,” Quinn said of their service.

“Once I hit it, I thought it felt good and it was just up to my teammates to make as much chaos as possible and they did. That’s all we can do in those late-game moments.” In some ways, the Reign (2-9-4) were looking at their past in Gotham’s pre.
