Ralf Schumacher has been "overwhelmed" by messages of support he has received since announcing he is in a same-sex relationship. Schumacher, a six-time Formula 1 race winner, came out in a social media post on Sunday . He posted an image of himself and partner Etienne looking out to sea with the caption: "The most beautiful thing in life is when you have the right partner by your side with whom you can share everything.
" With his announcement, Sky Germany pundit Schumacher became one of the highest-profile LGBTQA+ people in the motorsport world . And a spokesperson for the Schumacher family has since issued a statement to German media after a huge wave of support was directed at the couple. It read: "Ralf and Etienne are overwhelmed by the great response from around the world, nobody could have expected that.
" Schumacher, the brother of seven-time F1 champion Michael , was married to his ex-wife, Cora, for 14 years before their divorce in 2015. They had one son, 22-year-old David who races in the German GT Masters series, who wrote one of the many positive messages in response to his father's post. He wrote: "I am very happy that you have finally found someone with whom you really feel that you feel very comfortable and secure, no matter if a man or a woman, I am 100 percent behind you dad and wish you all the best and congratulations.
" And long-time friend, actress Carmen Geiss, also sent a lengthy message of support and hinted that Schumacher and his partner have been toget.
