Race Across The World 's fourth series drew to a dramatic close on Wednesday as the winners were crowned. The challenge saw friends Alfie and Owen winning after five teams of two raced their way to the Indonesian island of Lombok via a series of checkpoints. The gruelling ordeal has viewers hooked thanks to the difficult circumstances contestants have to battle through to get the win.
However, revelations made by past contestants and by crew members have led to fix claims after it emerged contestants can even stay in secret hotels for two days at each checkpoint. Viewers don't get to see the stays which came to light after Alfie, 20, admitted it in a Facebook group themed on the show as he confirmed they had to stay in the hotel for "safety reasons." " The confession comes after series two contestant Jen who competed alongside her husband Rob revealed that the teams have crew members with them all of the time. She explained that while there "isn't much viewers don't get to see," the two producers who travel with the teams are not shown on screen. She also confirmed that they have a "local fixer" and a medical expert who travel an hour behind them in case of any emergencies.
