Residents of an idyllic Cornish village have been left baffled after a series of "quite odd" thefts where the thieves have made off with old and damaged equipment, ignoring more valuable items. Locals in Devoran, between and , said they have been plagued by thieves who have been coming down to the quay on the Carnon River. They said everything from trailers to lawnmowers had been stolen, and now they are considering installing CCTV cameras to keep an eye on the area.

Tristan Jones, who is part of the committee on the , said thefts from the area happen every summer but the recent spate has been relentless and at times bafflingly random. He explained the thieves stole a trailer that was so broken he wasn't sure the wheels would stay on, a lawnmower with a "massive hole" that was covered in grass, and "the worst outboard Yamaha has ever made", ignoring the two good engines that were in the same area. Tristan said: "They stole two of the committee's lawnmowers including one with a massive hole in it that was covered in grass.



They stole parts of a boat. "I had an outboard motor stolen which is probably the worst outboard Yamaha has ever made, when there were two good ones next to it. They stole a trailer the other day that is in a really bad condition and was only used to trundle a boat from a house 100 yards away to the quay.
