Cyrus Broacha’s humour has always been top-notch. But his design acumen? Not so much. India got Indian television’s funniest man to step out of his comfort zone and review the most creatively bizarre furniture seen at this year’s Salone del Mobile and This is a bed.
It says, “As you get closer to death, you need to be closer to the ground,” which would explain its lack of elevation. And the silver foil reminds me of Indian parents who refuse to take the plastic off cars and furniture for ages to pretend it’s still new. There had to have been some desi intervention here, I’m sure of it.
Where is the crab...
oh I see, those are the eyes and those are the legs. I like it. Is that little umbrella on top purely decorative? Because it’s not going to cover everything you place on the table or the people sitting around it.
Is it a larger reflection on climate change? Is this an artist trying to express themselves despite the constraints of ? Is it just a guy who said, “There’s a crab inside me and I need to let that crab out”? As someone who is always one step away from a mishap at the gym, this set of drawers reminds me of the terror of picking up dumbbells from the rack. I always feel like I’ll lose a finger because there is no space between each dumbbell and I’ve been hurt in the past. It’s probably an irrational fear with these gorgeous drawers because Gucci has obviously thought this through but, Murphy’s Law, you know? I need to see this turned on.
