For long periods of one beautiful summer day in Berlin, England fans were allowed to dream at Euro 2024. But there will be no public holiday, just another major hangover after Spain's class shone through in a 2-1 victory. The fact that the dream did not become a reality is down to the brilliance of Luis de la Fuente's Spain side who just had too much quality about them and dealt with the big occasion better.
As Spain's name was being etched on to the Henri Delaunay trophy, England players hit the deck having given their all. The big difference of course was Nico Williams and Yamal Lamina who were always going to be the stars on show. Although, England limited them early on before dropping off at key stages in the second half.
Being in Berlin's impressive Olympic Stadium made you feel like this time things could be different for a while. Both in the first half as England battled and scrapped while Cole Palmer's equaliser in the second half raised the roof.
