A lake famed for having a "floating" island that disappeared is now being associated with disappearing fish. Llyn Dywarchen, a lake near Rhyd-Ddu with stunning views of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), was once nominated as one of the 60 Wonders of Eryri (Snowdonia) due to its tranquillity and beauty. However, recent times have seen its waters troubled by poachers, some reportedly using boats owned by members of the Seiont Gwyrfai and Llyfni Fishing Society, who hold angling rights to the lake.

Non-members are allowed to fish at Llyn Dywarchen by purchasing season, weekly or day tickets, but members have reported encountering groups fishing illegally, who become "verbally abusive" when confronted. Some members have even questioned whether it's worth their while fishing there anymore. In response to these complaints, North Wales Police rural crime officers have started patrolling the area, reports North Wales Live .
