Article content A pair of local community theatre companies captured some hardware at the recent Western Ontario Drama League Festival. The Owen Sound Little Theatre’s production of Something Rotten! brought home three awards, while the Kincardine Theatre Guild’s Beauty and the Beast won two awards at the 2024 festival held in London on May 17 and 18. OSLT’s Something Rotten! had 14 nominations, while the Kincardine Theatre Guild’s production had five nominations.
Cathie Tilley, the wardrobe designer in Something Rotten! brought home the award for best visually coordinated costumes. The local team made over 100 original costumes for the show. The show’s choreographer Paula Mercer took home the award for outstanding choreography, while the surprise reveal of tap-shoes and the tap routine by James Black playing Will Shakespeare and Jamie Smith playing Nick Bottom, won the award for memorable moment in a show.
The production, directed by Kathleen Cassidy, ran at the Roxy Theatre in Owen Sound last month. OSLT has started holding auditions for The Prom, a musical set to hit the Roxy stage in November. Those auditions are to continue Saturday from 11 a.
m. to 2 p.m.
and Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.
m. and from 7 p.m.
to 10 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 770 6 St.
