OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – The top prosecutor for Ottawa County will be decided in the upcoming Aug. 6 primary election, as both candidates are Republicans. Candidates Sarah Matwiejczyk and Greg Todd are seeking to become the county’s prosecuting attorney after current Prosecutor Lee Fisher announced his plans to retire at the end of this year.

RELATED: Ottawa County prosecutor will not seek re-election after 2024 Matwiejczyk, 48, is currently the county’s chief assistant prosecutor and has spent 23 years as a prosecutor in Ottawa County. She’s served on the county’s sobriety courts and helped establish a vulnerable adult abuse task force. Matwiejczyk has also taught at Grand Valley State University’s police academy and Western Michigan University’s Cooley Law School.



Todd, also 48, started his career as a police officer, then worked as a litigator for small West Michigan firms. In 2015, he founded his own law firm, Polaris Law, which specializes in business, real estate and probate litigation. Todd has served as a firefighter for the Crockery Township Fire Department and served on the township’s Board of Review.

He also teaches high schoolers at the Lake Michigan Home School Co-op. MLive has partnered with the League of Women Voters of Michigan Education Fund this year to provide voters with a Vote411 election guide. Candidates filled out general information about their campaigns and answered a list of questions from the League of Women Voters.
