‘Armchair detectives’ are being urged to stop speculating on what has happened to missing UK teenager Jay Slater. The 19-year-old Lancashire teen went missing in Tenerife earlier this week after he attempted to walk back to his accommodation after attending a festival on the island. Mr Slater missed the return bus back to his accommodation and rang his friend Lucy on Monday to tell her his phone was on 1%.
The walk from his last known location to his accommodation would have taken around 11 hours on foot. The case has drawn widespread attention, with speculation mounting on social media regarding Slater’s whereabouts. Social media users are now being urged to refrain from speculating with a leading missing persons expert noting that it makes it harder for useful information to be found.
