OKCThunder Films has premiered a wonderful new documentary featuring Thunder center Bismack Biyombo, his dream to play basketball growing up in his native Democratic Republic of the Congo and his community efforts to provide opportunities for others in his native country. “BISMACK” held its world premiere at the deadCenter Film Festival last week; the 28-minute film inspired those who watched it at Harkins Theatre during a special screening. In an interview, Cacky Poarch, deadCenter’s founding executive director, called herself a Thunder fan who already enjoyed watching Bismack plan before seeing “BISMACK.

” “It’s absolutely beautiful,” Poarch said of the movie. “I did not realize his impact and what his heart, what a big heart he has for changing his community, investing in his community. I love this film.

I think it’s a great, a great reflection of him as such a wonderful person and a wonderful player. And we’re so lucky to have him here in Oklahoma City. Michael Zuback is the movie’s director, editor and cinematographer.

Producers are Paris Lawson, Nick Gallo, Laila Wani; executive producers are Dan Mahoney and Matt Tumbleson. Zuback said in a filmmakers’ talk after the screening that the group started with about 350 hours of Bismack to work with in his native country – “powerful imagery.” The film included his work in the Congo, playing basketball and showing his heart and passion for the young people there.
