Tucked away on Piersol Road in Chester County, not far from French Creek State Park, is a hidden gem of 712 acres that’s open to the public called Crow’s Nest Preserve. One of Natural Land’s nature preserves on protected land in Chester County, the preserve is usually quiet enough to make visitors feel they have the grounds and trails to themselves. Whether birding, exploring the seasonal plant life along the trails or looking to spot wildlife, it’s a place where you’ll likely feel better after having spent time there.
For little ones, the preserve’s NaturePlayGround is an ideal place for unstructured play and exploration. Regardless of age, the beauty, peace and sounds of nature have the ability to nurture each one of us. Usually, when we spend time in nature, it’s pretty safe to say that most of us are looking to get something from it: we might be seeking for it to help boost our mood and make us feel more relaxed, or more grounded and less anxious.
But let’s take a minute to look at things the other way around. What can each one of us do to nurture nature, which, like us, has certain needs to function optimally and attain maximum vitality? One way to give back is through volunteering your time through various opportunities in the region available to help maintain trails, among other projects, aimed at bringing people together to help preserve the natural beauty right around us. At Crow’s Nest Preserve, they offer a chance to volunteer on Wednesday, June 5.
