Surf City is earning its moniker this week, as the final days of the National Scholastic Surfing Association national championships are underway. The nine-day competition draws an estimated 500 competitors from across the country, including Hawaii and Puerto Rico, to battle it out for the prestigious amateur title, where many pro surfers get their start. “It’s been great, we’ve had beautiful summer weather, the water is warm, all the kids are really digging that,” said NSSA Executive Director Janice Aragon.
