We’re not quite at the business end of the season but the whips are already cracking at some clubs vying for a finals spot. The Broncos slumped to a sixth straight loss to leave their season on life support, while the Sharks finally found their confidence. The Dolphins and the Dragons continued their pursuit to be playing in September and the Titans are refusing to give up on their finals dream.

Pressure is ramping up on Broncos coach Kevin Walters after the club slumped to a sixth straight loss on Saturday. Brisbane were their own enemy for the opening 55 minutes against the Dragons before finally clicking into gear but it was too little, too late. No team has ever won the premiership after losing six straight games the 2023 grand finalists now must win six of their final seven games just to play finals this year.

Former Eels coach Brad Arthur was sacked just 18 months after steering the club to the 2022 grand final. Broncos great Corey Parker said the Origin decider this week will only briefly take the pressure off Walters and his side. “It won’t go away, six in a row, you can’t evade that, the Broncos since 1988 have been built on success and this is a team that went within a whisker of winning the competition last year and now they sit 13th,” he said.

“It’s not acceptable, it’s never been acceptable at Brisbane and I’m sure Kevin Walters would be feeling that, the pressure would be immense at the moment. The drums are beating at the moment in Brisbane..
