The festivities will be bookended by an Olympic-style opening ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday and closing ceremony at 1 p.
m. Sunday, both in Northville's Waterfront Park. “We’ve been planning this for over a year all throughout Fulton County.
.. Hamilton County, all the way to Lake Placid,” said Fulton County Tourism Coordinator Carla Kolbe.
“This is the kickoff event of what is going to be happening all summer.” Edwin “Doc” Noyes, one of the NPT trail originators, near NPT trail, 1924 Work of the Northville-Placid Trail began back in 1922 — undertaken by the Adirondack Mountain Club — and was completed in 1924. According to the trail's website , the trail initially began as a way to make transportation simpler between Northville and Lake Placid before automobiles were very popular in the area.
The forging of the trail was also significant because there was a series of wooded roads along it connecting travelers to remote areas in the heart of the Adirondacks. According to Kolbe, the significance of the trail has only grown over time. With its 130-plus-mile stretch, the trail attracts many tourists, local hikers and explorers.
"The hike can definitely be a challenge, but the history of it is significant," Kolbe said. "It's beautiful and it's a great way to get to Adirondack Park. I think people who have done it feel a great sense of accomplishment.
It's their way of reaching back in time." The weekend will consist of multiple activities including craft making on Sat.
