Residents are up in arms over 'excessive' lighting at a hotel which is said to be lighting up the night sky. Retrospective planning is being sought by Clwyd Gate Motel in Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd after complaints from neighbours. The application is seeking permission for external alterations, including lighting and associated works, which officers have recommended for approval.

Residents argue the site is an area of natural beauty and allege that light pollution is already emanating from the hotel, located within a proposed Dark Skies Zone. Denbighshire's planning officers have recommended that the committee should consider granting retrospective planning permission for changes to external lighting. Martyn Parry voiced his objection in a letter to the council.



"I object to the granting of planning permission for this application on three grounds, all of which concern light pollution and the environment," the letter states. "The excessive use of exterior lighting left unnecessarily switched on throughout the night, almost every night, shows no concern for the environment." "This wasteful use of electricity contributes in its own small way to global warming.
