GRAND RAPIDS MI- There is a little neighborhood flower stand that recently opened off Leonard Street that community members are stopping by to check out the freshest blooms offered. The hidden gem called Bestside Blooms , located at 1112 Barber Terrace Dr. NW, is tucked into the side of Kristin Freeland’s home with a lovely garden that immediately catches your eye.

“I’m really excited to offer this to the community,” said Freeland, who opened her flower stand business on June 26. The types of flowers will change from week to week, but dahlias, zinnias, cosmos and sunflowers are some common ones. Freeland said she uses unique elements in her bouquets such as herbs, grasses and foliage’s to add fragrance and garden inspiration.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Freeland said buying bouquets of flowers gave her a lot of joy and she began gardening as a way to help with her mental health. She said gardening also brought her closer to those in her community. “As I began transforming my grass filled front yard into a cottage garden delight, I was able to meet so many sweet neighbors,” Freeland said on Facebook.

“Now that the garden is planted, neighbors walking by get to enjoy the blooming flowers.” Freeland, a married, stay at home mom, said she wanted to “design a beautiful and productive garden for cut flowers, without the look of a traditional flower farm.” She said planning and planting for this first season that ends in October began in February.
