This July, The Generalist and Sound Solutions Music Therapy have teamed up to make music therapy more accessible to the Johnson City community. The sessions are the first children’s event series hosted by The Generalist, as well as the first public group sessions hosted by PJ Boyajian, founder of Sound Solutions Music Therapy. Sessions will be held for two different age groups on the remaining Fridays in July; Boyajian will work with toddlers, ages 1–3 years, from 9:30–10:30 a.

m., and preschoolers, ages 3–5 years, from 10:45–11:45 a.m.

Music is the motivation Boyajian said that music therapy works by using music as a medium to establish a relationship and make progress toward individualized goals with a client. These goals are non-musical, and can encompass developmental, social, sensory, cognitive or emotional needs. Although eligible participants in the music therapy groups held at The Generalist are relatively close in age, Boyajian said that splitting up the groups enables her to be more effective in targeting specific goals through the session.
